ETNIKOM.NET, JAKARTA — In our efforts to create positive change in society, we often overlook a crucial aspect: our approach. Even with good intentions, we can inadvertently do more harm than good. This happens when we strive for perfection without understanding the complexities of human nature and the gradual process of growth.
To effectively bring about change, we need to keep a few things in mind. Firstly, everything in life unfolds in its own time. Perfection is not instantaneous; it’s a process. When Allah commands us to strive for perfection, He acknowledges our efforts, not just the outcome.
Secondly, the Quran teaches us two essential methods for guiding others: “tabsyiir” (sharing good news) and “tandziir” (offering warnings). While both are necessary, the Quran emphasizes the importance of encouragement and compassion over criticism.
Thirdly, empathy is key. We need to understand the perspectives and contexts of those we’re trying to help. I’ve faced criticism for engaging with people from diverse backgrounds, but I believe it’s essential to meet people where they are.
Lastly, judging others harshly can be detrimental. When we look down on others, we forget that everyone is on their own journey. Instead of focusing on flaws, we should appreciate the efforts people make towards positive change.
In conclusion, a positive approach is about uplifting others, educating with kindness, healing with compassion, and inviting others to goodness with gentleness. By focusing on progress, not perfection, we can create a more supportive and inclusive community.
Regrettably, some individuals focus on fault-finding, often going out of their way to criticize others. This approach can create a never-ending cycle of mistakes and negativity. May Allah guide us.[]
