ETNIKOM.NET, JAKARTA – In Islam, fatherhood is a sacred trust and profound responsibility bestowed by Allah. A father is a shepherd of his household, responsible for guiding and caring for his family, as the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Each of you is a shepherd, and each of you is responsible for his flock” (Bukhari & Muslim).
A father’s role is crucial in shaping his children’s character, faith and future, providing emotional stability and spiritual strength through love, guidance and presence. The Quran exemplifies this through Prophet Ibrahim’s (peace be upon him) tender yet leadership-filled interactions with his son Ismail (peace be upon him).
Being a father in Islam encompasses not only material provision but also nurturing a love for Allah, connection to the Quran and commitment to justice, kindness and responsibility. It’s a lifelong mission of mercy and mentorship, aiming to leave a legacy of piety and service.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “When a person dies, their deeds cease except for three: ongoing charity, knowledge that benefits others and a righteous child who prays for them” (Muslim). A righteous child’s prayers are an ongoing reward for fathers in the hereafter.
May Allah grant fathers strength, wisdom and compassion to fulfill their noble role and raise generations rooted in truth and guided by light. Ameen.
